Frequently Asked Questions
There are numerous beaches in the area: the Dunedin Causeway, Honeymoon Island, Caladesi Island, Clearwater Beach, Sand Key Beach, Indian Rocks Beach, Crystal Beach, Fred Howard Park, Sunset Beach, Anclote Beach.
You can walk to the Dunedin Causeway, about 15 minutes, but it would not be ideal to walk, spend all day, and walk back.
The closest beach is the Dunedin Causeway, a little under 2 miles, one light south (Curlew Rd/Causeway Blvd). The Jolley Trolley can pick you up on the property and take you to the corner of Alternate 19 & Curlew Rd, from there you can walk to the Dunedin Causeway (<1/4 mile). About 2 miles down the Dunedin Causeway is Honeymoon Island. Honeymoon Island has a small entrance fee and you want to be committed to go to the beach if you go to Honeymoon Island. You can ride your bike to Honeymoon Island. Caladesi Island is another beach. You take a ferry from Honeymoon Island to Caladesi Island. Caladesi Island is only accessible by boat. You can kayak from the Dunedin Causeway to Caladesi Island (Caladesi Island is really no big deal, it’s just a quieter beach than Honeymoon Island).
Clearwater Beach is about 7 miles south. Clearwater Beach is by far the best beach to walk along the sand. The Jolley Trolley will take you all the way to Clearwater Beach. From Clearwater Beach you can catch the Suncoast Trolley taking you to further south beaches like Sand Key Beach and Indian Rocks Beach. You can ride your bikes to Clearwater Beach, but at some point you will need to get off the Pinellas Trail and ride along the road for a small portion of the trip (not a big deal for adults but not ideal for kids).
Crystal Beach is 2 miles north along the Pinellas Trail. Crystal Beach is a very small beach.
Fred Howard Park and Sunset Beach are in Tarpon Springs. You can ride your bikes to these beaches, however driving your car would be best.
Anclote Beach is in Tarpon Springs. You would drive your vehicle 8 miles on Alternate 19 pass the Sponge Docks until you get to Anclote Boulevard, not Anclote Rd. Go left (west) on Anclote Boulevard until Anclote Boulevard dead ends, and there you will see Anclote Beach.
Heading north, the Trolley goes through downtown Palm Harbor and the Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs. Heading south, the Trolley stops at the intersection of the Dunedin Causeway and goes on to Downtown Dunedin, Downtown Clearwater, and Clearwater Beach. From Clearwater Beach you can hop on the Suncoast Trolley bringing you to Sand Key Beach and Indian Rocks Beach. The Trolley does not go to Honeymoon Island.
